Information for Local Business
Internships
Internships are essential for our HPC students where they can apply what they have learned. If you look at the Suggested Sequence of HPC classes you will see the breadth of the HPC knowledge the students will have. You can also drill down into a specific course for more details.
If you provide an internship position to the HPC program, you can expect the HPC program will either send you a qualified candidate or no candidate at all.
Before you see the intern, you can also expect every intern will:
- Participate in a six week intensive soft skills course
- Study the online jobs board (formed from the internships you supply)
- Prepare a resume targeted towards their internships of interest
- Initial interview with one or more instructors and advisory board members
- Businesses are certainly encouraged to do the final interview of candidates themselves.
Each internship will have these common traits:
- The first 8 hours should involve the student shadowing one of your employees. The business can always move from job shadowing mode when they choose.
- Student spends at least 80 hours on the internship
Please supply us the following info for each kind of intership you will offer
