Contra Costa College (CCC) is proud to announce the induction of the first-ever class of 100 athletes, coaches, and contributors into the newly established Contra Costa College Athletics Hall of Fame. This historic event celebrates the rich legacy of CCC’s athletic program and honors those who have made significant contributions to the college’s sports history.
The inaugural Hall of Fame class includes former student-athletes, coaches, and community members who have demonstrated excellence in their respective sports and brought honor to the college through their achievements.
The first group of athletes includes the likes of:
– Benny Barnes, a CCC alum who went on to become an NFL great, notably playing as a cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, where he was a key player in Super Bowls XII and XIII.
– Eddie Hart, an Olympic gold medalist who made history in track and field, winning gold in the 4×100 meter relay at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
– Pumpsie Green, who paved the way for future generations of athletes as the first African American player for the Boston Red Sox.
These athletes, along with 97 other distinguished inductees, represent the best of Contra Costa College’s proud athletic tradition. The college has already begun selecting former student-athletes for the second round of inductions.
“We are thrilled to induct such an incredible group of individuals into our Athletics Hall of Fame,” said Kyle Alvarado, Athletic Director at Contra Costa College. “This is a momentous occasion for our college, as we honor the legacy of those who have not only excelled in athletics but also contributed to the spirit and community of CCC. Benny Barnes and Eddie Hart are shining examples of the exceptional talent that has emerged from our programs, and we are proud to recognize their achievements alongside our other inductees.”
The induction ceremony will take place on November 8th, 2024, at Contra Costa College’s newly renovated Gymnasium, where the honorees, their loved ones and other community members will gather to celebrate this significant milestone. The event will also serve as an opportunity to reunite former athletes and coaches, celebrating decades of athletic excellence and camaraderie at CCC. The college does ask that all attendees RSVP at www.contracosta.edu/hof prior to attending, to allow for appropriate planning.
The Hall of Fame will serve as a lasting tribute to those who have left an indelible mark on CCC’s athletic programs, inspiring current and future generations of student-athletes to pursue their dreams both on and off the field.
