The High Tech Center is a computer laboratory designed to train students with disabilities to access Windows, Microsoft Office, the internet, email, and printed material with adaptive technologies. These technologies enable students to gain access to standard college coursework.
All students that are accepted into DSPS are eligible to use the High Tech Center. With diligent application of the skills gained in the High Tech Center, students are better prepared for success in their college course endeavors and future employment.

- Skills Tutor Online instruction and tutoring to increase academic achievement for students

- Large height adjustable flat-panel monitors for students with low vision
- Height adjustable workstations for students who use mobility devices
- Large print keyboards for students with low vision
- Mini keyboard and track balls for students with limited reach and dexterity
- Flatbed scanners for reading and editing printed material with Kurzweil 1000 or 3000
- CCTV for reading printed material
High Tech Center Policies + Procedures
- Only current students registered with Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS), staff and faculty may use the lab.
- When first entering the computer lab, sign in with your name and student ID number.
- Contra Costa College student ID card: You may be asked to present it at any time.
- No Cell Phones: Be courteous to your fellow patrons and turn your phone off or on vibrate.
- Food and drink are not permitted in the lab.
- Use of the lab should not interfere with the ability of other students to do their academic work.
- If assistance is needed, please see the lab coordinator.
- Network Access: If you are using a personal laptop it is limited to wireless access. Do not disconnect any computers in the lab for your personal device.
- Don’t share your Student ID#, user name or password.
- Please do not leave your personal belongings at any time. Contra Costa College is not responsible for lost or stolen items in the computer lab.
- You may not install or copy software or make changes to lab computers.
- Do not save your work on lab computers. All data will be deleted when computers are shut down at the end of lab hours. Save your work to removable media (Flash drive, CD) or send to e-mail.
- No special paper in printers. Use the paper that is presently in the printer. If the printer needs paper, let the lab coordinator know and new paper will be added.
- Inappropriate Material: All students should work on material that is related to their studies at Contra Costa College. Viewing social media, playing games and watching sexually explicit material on campus is inappropriate and you will be asked to stop the activity immediately and/or further action will be taken.
