Philosophy

Philosophy literally means “the love of wisdom.” In other words, it is the desire for knowledge, the pursuit of truth, and the search for meaning. Philosophy prepares you to think critically and creatively, communicate clearly and effectively, and solve complex personal and social problems. Perhaps more importantly, Philosophy develops your capacities for self-reflection and social awareness, leading to a more examined and purposeful life.

Students who study Philosophy are well prepared for graduate study in a number of fields (ex: Humanities, Social Sciences, Law) as well as success in various careers, including Arts, Business, Education, Entertainment, Government, Journalism, Law, Politics, Psychology, Social Work, Writing, and more! For an inspiring list of famous Philosophy majors such as Angela Davis, Olmeca, Kumail Nanjiana, and Bruce Lee, see the American Philosophical Association’s Who Studies Philosophy?

It gave me a competitive edge to say I began at a community college, as opposed to starting out at a university because, it was different from the other applicants.
