African American Studies

Engage in a comprehensive exploration of African and African American experiences. Through these courses, you’ll not only sharpen your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, but you’ll also be empowered to become a catalyst for change in your community, society, and beyond.

The Africana/African American Studies Program is in partnership with the Africana Studies Department at San Francisco State University. SFSU was the first four year college to have a Black Studies Department (later changed to Africana Studies).

Our interdisciplinary curriculum spans the Humanities, Behavioral Sciences, and Social Sciences, with a range of classes listed below. We’re also proud to offer a major in African American Studies.

I love CCC, I really do. It was during my time at CCC that I had an opportunity to understand what college is like, in a place where there are people there to support and nurture you, encountering folks who really cared and have the time to build relationships.
