Sociology is the study of human behavior, relationships, and the structures that shape our lives. At Contra Costa College, our Sociology program offers a student-centered approach to exploring how societies function—from small group interactions to global systems.

You’ll engage with key sociological theories, learn essential research methods, and develop a deeper understanding of how factors like race, class, gender, culture, and institutions influence human experience. Coursework emphasizes analysis at the micro, meso, and macro levels—giving you a comprehensive view of the social world.

Whether you’re planning to transfer or pursue a career in education, social work, public policy, law, criminal justice, community organizing, or beyond, Sociology at CCC helps you make sense of the world—and your role within it.

Sociology is the scientific study of society, social relationships, and institutions. It examines how people live, work, and relate to one another—helping us understand both personal experiences and broader social patterns that shape our communities and world.
