College For Kids

Contra Costa College is excited to spend a great summer with you! The College for Kids (C4K) program serves students entering grades 6-8 in the fall. We design our curriculum to meet the needs of the general student population. 

This year we are offering two different tracks for youth aged 11-14.

Track 1: ARTS

This track will feature participation in our summer theater offering, with a culminating live performance at the end of the summer.

DRAMA: Do you love to perform? Would you like to improve your acting skills? This class is being offered as a summer theatre camp for young people ages 11-17. Students will work on developing a play for production, while learning the “ins and outs” of theatre production, including both the artistic and technical side. The class will culminate with a live presentation of the play.

SPORTS SAMPLER: Test your skill at a variety of sports (basketball, dance, volleyball, swimming). Learn about teamwork and have fun in the sun!

Track 2: STEM

This track will include traditional summer offerings (writing, math, sports) and teach youth how to grow their own food and garden.

ENGLISH EXPLORATION: This writing class will allow you to flex your creative skills and develop your writing skills through spelling, grammar and writing practice. Students will be exposed to a variety of writing styles including journaling, paragraph/essay development, and creative writing.

DATA & PROGRAMMING FOR KIDS: Interested in launching a few rockets? If so, come learn the basics of data and programming through several fun and interactive projects. Students will learn about cool new technologies, how they relate to computers, and coding.

GROW YOUR OWN FOOD: This class will allow kids to learn about plant biology while tending a garden. Each student will have their own container to grow vegetables and herbs that they will take home at the end of the summer. The goal is to learn how to grow food, understand the nutritional aspects, local food value chain, and support sustainable practices.

College 4 Kids will cost $225 for either the four-week or six-week program. CCC will offer partial scholarships to San Pablo residents who meet income qualifications. Please see enrollment form for more information. 

Participation in C4K requires a family orientation session that will provide parents with more information about the program, discuss behavioral expectations, and allow parents to meet the staff.
